Join us for an immersive songwriting experience tailored for budding musicians ages 12-15!
Presented by local singer/songwriter Alice Limoges, this dynamic workshop is designed to ignite creativity, refine lyrical and musical skills, and foster collaboration among aspiring songwriters. No prior experience is necessary, only a curiosity and enthusiasm for the art of songwriting.
Under Alice’s expert guidance, students will explore the fundamentals of crafting compelling lyrics and melodies, unlocking their individual musical voices along the way. Through interactive exercises and group activities, they’ll learn the intricacies of song structure, arrangement, and expression.
This workshop isn’t just about individual growth—it’s about the magic of collaboration. Students will join forces with their peers to craft a complete song from start to finish. Together, they’ll blend their creativity, communicate ideas, and draw inspiration from each other to create something truly special: a song that reflects the collective talent and imagination of the entire group.
Following the workshop, participants will have the optional opportunity to showcase their talents at an open mic event. Whether they choose to perform the song crafted during the workshop or their own original compositions, students will have the chance to take the stage with confidence and pride. The open mic is free and open to all (though donations are gladly accepted), offering a supportive and low-pressure platform for young artists to shine and share their music with the community.
The workshop runs from 2:00 - 4:00; the open mic begins at 4:00 and will run no later than 5:00.
Advance registration is required - no walk-ins. This class is capped at 10 participants.
About the instructor:
Alice Limoges, a seasoned musician with five independent albums, brings a unique blend of experience and expertise to the world of songwriting education. As a semi-finalist in the 2019 International Songwriting Competition and a contributor to the Grammy Award-winning album "Ageless: Songs For The Child Archetype" by Jon Samson, Alice's credentials speak for themselves.
Beyond her accomplished music career, Alice is a dedicated educator, bringing her expertise to schools and community groups. She has conducted engaging songwriting workshops for ages 9-18 in Maine schools (Camden Hills Regional High School, Camden-Rockport Middle School, Camden-Rockport Elementary School, Lincolnville Central School, and Ash Point Community schools), fostering creativity and empowering young minds to find their own unique musical voice. Using Alice's songwriting method, every child experiences success in composing their own individual song and collaboratively contributing to a group song for the class.
Alice's educational background adds depth to her mentorship. Trained in Studio Composition (songwriting/production) at SUNY Purchase, she honed her craft in the heart of New York's music scene for seven years. Continuously pursuing knowledge, Alice integrates her learnings from mentors like Charles Blenzig (piano), Mary Klimek (voice), Judy Pagon (Alexander Technique), Meredith Colby (voice), Joel Thome (composition), Jon Jetter (production/recording), and Bob Thompson (guitar) into her teaching philosophy.
At the heart of Alice's approach is the belief that songwriting is a collaborative and transformative process. Her online Songwriting Circle is a testament to this ethos, providing a space for both professional and amateur songwriters to come together, share ideas, and refine their craft.
Alice's songwriting method, honed through workshops in various educational settings, ensures that participants not only learn the technical aspects of songwriting but also experience the joy of creating their own compositions. Each workshop culminates in a group song, highlighting the power of collective creativity.
