Theatre at Monmouth brings an exciting an engaging adaptation of classic literature to Midcoast Maine!

The Reluctant Dragon tells the tale of Charity who meets a tea-drinking, poetry-loving dragon on the edge of town. With the help of the hilarious and heroic Sir Giles, Charlotte and Denis D. Dragon work together to convince the villagers that a dragon can be friendly. Through this fun and exciting adventure, young audiences learn the importance of teamwork, accepting others, and solving problems together.

Theatre at Monmouth brings adaptations of classic literature to students and families across the state! For 2023 they present a world-premiere of The Reluctant Dragon (grades prek-8) to deepen understanding of, appreciation for, and connection to classic literature for learners of all ages. Watts Hall Community Arts is thrilled to partner with Theatre at Monmouth to bring this performance to the children and families of the Midcoast!

Advance tickets are $15 for adults / $10 for children 12 and under. Door tickets, if available, will be $20 for adults / $15 for children 12 and under.

FAQs

Q: How is ticketing handled?

A: Ticketing is by general admission. There is no assigned seating - as such, we cannot guarantee that large parties will be seated together, especially if the show is sold out. We recommend arriving when the doors open for the highest likelihood of sitting together.

Q: What time do the doors open?

A: The doors open at 2:30. No one will be permitted in the auditorium prior to 2:30.

Q: Is this event family-friendly?

A: Absolutely! "The Reluctant Dragon" is an all-ages show. Please note that all audience members, regardless of age, do need a ticket.

Q: How long is the show?

A: The show has a run-time of approximately 1 hour with no intermission.

Q: Is Watts Hall an accessible venue?

A: Yes, it is! While the auditorium is located on the second floor, we do have an ADA-compliant elevator available to anyone who needs it. We also have an accessible restroom. The doorways and hallways are nice and wide to accommodate mobility aids.

Q: Will tickets be available at the door?

A: Maybe. We don't reserve any tickets for door sales and our events often sell out in advance. If you want to guarantee entrance, we recommend purchasing your tickets in advance. We will update our Facebook page regarding the availability of door tickets the day of the event. If door tickets are available, they will be priced at $20/adults and $15/children 12 and under. We accept cash, cards, and local checks.

Q: Will food and drink be available for purchase?

A: Yes! A selection of non-alcoholic beverages and concessions will be available by donation.
